In 1964 M.Y. Gilardy starts his business in the gemstone trade. He lives in the Italian fashion metropolis Milano, and travels from there to gemstone mines in Brazil, South Africa, Madagascar, Asia, and many more, buying stones of exceptional quality and importing them to Europe. In 1968 he begins trade in Germany, regularly visiting the German gemstone capital Idar-Oberstein, where one can find the German diamond and gemstone stock market as well as one of the largest agate and amethyst mines in Europe, in which gemstones have been sources for over several hundred years.
